About the campaign
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has taken the difficult but necessary decision to temporarily withdraw its application for union representation for the 21,000 flight attendants at US airline Delta. See the timeline for details on the campaign to date.
ITF unions have played a massive part in this campaign so far, sending a strong message about what it means to be part of a union and letting Delta flight attendants know about the strength, unity and global reach of the ITF family.
Why won’t we give up? Delta is the largest anti-union airline in the US and in the global aviation industry – only its pilots and a handful of flight dispatchers belong to a union. Despite the hard work of ITF USA affiliates for over a decade, successive votes on unionisation at Delta have been unsuccessful.
The IAM Delta campaign aims to encourage flight attendants to vote for contracts and job security, giving them:
- a better quality of life
- recognition and respect in the workplace though collective bargaining rights
- the legal right to discuss important issues with management to create positive change
- The transparency and accountability which having a contract provides
