The International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) is a global union federation of transport workers' trade unions.

Our HQ is in London with International offices include Amman, Hong Kong, Nairobi, Montreal, New Delhi, Ouagadougou, Rio, Tokyo, Singapore, and Sydney.

Purpose

The ITF constitution sets out the following aims:

  • To promote respect for trade union and human rights worldwide
  • To work for peace based on social justice and economic progress
  • To help our affiliated unions defend the interests of their members
  • To provide research and information services to our affiliates
  • To provide general assistance to transport workers in difficulty

Deputy Young Transport Workers Officer

The Deputy Young Transport Workers Officer will develop strategies for organising young transport workers, ensuring that all levels of the ITF leadership are fully engaged and supporting meaningful activities. This role will be key in leading positive practices, mutual respect and attitudes to youth empowerment.

Under the direction of the Youth Officer, the successful candidate will:

  • Collaborate      with ITF sections, regions and departments to implement effective delivery      of the priority work programme focusing on young transport workers’ issues
  • Develop,      lead and monitor specific activities, programmes and projects that help      build stronger unions through youth involvement and empowerment.
  • Support and      maintain strong links with all sections, regions and departments to ensure      youth engagement in all ITF programmes.
  • Support and      maintain strong and strategic relationships with ITF affiliates, donor      organisations and other relevant stakeholders both internally and      externally to deliver change programmes.
  • Lead      stakeholder engagement and build youth networks, ensuring inclusiveness of      young transport workers’ participation, empowerment and leadership at      every level
  • Deputise for the Youth Officer as required

 

About you

The mission and values of the ITF are of utmost importance and as such, the successful candidate for this role must hold high ethical standards, displaying diligence and a strong commitment to social justice and trade unions.

We are looking for an open minded and approachable individual with experience either in the trade union movement or in a social movement context. You must have sound knowledge of youth-related issues relevant to the transport industry and proven experience in developing, implementing and evaluating strategic organising campaigns including using social and digital organising tools. High-level verbal and written communication skills, including proven ability of developing positive relationships with organisations and individuals across cultures and with diverse audiences are essential.

To be effective in the role, a collaborative approach to working with others and a high level of discretion, diplomacy, and judgment in a complex and sensitive environment will be vital.

The Deputy Young Transport Workers Officeris expected to undertake regular international travel and must be able to work flexibly including during out of office hours.

Salary and Benefits

ITF operates transparent pay grades. This role offers a salary range between £47,660- £56,545 per annum.  Please note that this salary is fixed and non-negotiable.

ITF also offers an attractive non-performance related guaranteed bonus equating to 1/12th of your annual salary, as well as a highly competitive final salary pension scheme, international travel, critical life insurance, competitive annual leave and company closure days plus much more.

Regional Secretary, Africa

The Regional Secretary, Africa will play a fundamental role in promoting the activities and interests of the ITF as well as fostering and leading solidarity support across the African Region. In collaboration with the Office of the General Secretary (OGS) and ITF’s affiliates, this role will lead on developing and executing robust campaigns and projects within the Region including the integration of ITF global campaigns.

The Regional Secretary will also be responsible for devising and leading the development of the regional work plan to reflect global strategic directions and priorities. Acting as a representative for ITF to external organisations, this role will have primary responsibility for liaising with other Global Union Federations (GUFs) to enhance external relations and extend ITF affiliations in the Region.

The Regional Secretary will have overall accountability for ITF offices across the Region ensuring maximum operational efficiencies, in line with legislative and compliance obligations. The successful candidate will be also accountable for the management of ITF employees, and ensuring that the Region’s office operations and culture are in line with the mission and values of the ITF.

About you

We are looking for a purpose driven individual with significant experience of effective leadership at a senior management level, including developing and leading key organisational strategies within a national trade union. This person must have a strong member/customer focused approach to service delivery and be able to demonstrate strategic thinking which resulted in successful organisational change. The role requires someone who has the ability to work effectively in a political environment, and who can effectively build relationships, displaying strong collaborative and influencing skills.

The Regional Secretary is expected to undertake regular international travel and must be able to work flexibly including during out of office hours.
